Council Meeting Highlights for February 2, 2015

 Committee of the Whole   Regular Open

•    Paul Dumoret, Manager of Oliver Airport – Services and Future Plans of the Oliver Airport. Mayor McKortoff stated that Osoyoos is considering repurposing the airport strip to industrial lands and the information on the Oliver airport is helpful for Council to make a decision. The presentation was received for information.

•    Revenue Anticipation Borrowing Bylaw No. 1308, 2015 was adopted.

•    SILGA Resolution – Internet voting would be another tool to improve voter interest during elections, particularly for younger demographic. Staff requested to bring forward a report to the February 16 meeting with a draft resolution for Council’s consideration.
•    Penticton Model Aviation Club (PENMAC) Airport Use Agreement Council approves the agreement with PENMAC for use of the Osoyoos Airport for the term of January 1 to December 31, 2015.
•    Pre-Budget Approval – Sewer Lift Station Reconstruction - $3,440,000. The report is available online for public viewing.  Administration to make application to the Building Canada Fund – Small Communities Fund  and the Federal Gas Tax Strategic Priorities Fund to enable the Sewer Main Lift Upgrading Project.
•    Late item resolution from In Camera -  discussions have occurred with Mathews Enterprises Incorporated (MEI) to enable the future purchase and development of airport lands in the event of repurposing to industrial use.


•    Committee Reports – Child and Youth Committee Meeting (Councillor Youngberg is new appointee). United Way would like to meet with Town of Osoyoos and possibly provide funding toward some projects. 
•    Met with Osoyoos Child Care Centre – early retirees in fields of education and nursing are called upon to volunteer their time to help the organization. (Councillor Youngberg)
•    Attended DO meeting – highlight is creation and execution of Snowbird Guide.  80,000 copies circulated and many to out of province.  (Councillor   Campol)
•    RDOS Area A rural budget meeting will be held on February 4 at Sonora Community Centre.
•    Elks Club Dance – on February 14 at Elks Hall, fundraiser for the July 1 Fireworks program.  Tickets available at Imperial Office Pro.
•    February is Heart and Stroke Month. Encourage everyone to wear red in February to bring awareness to heart and stroke.

Copies of reports are available within the Council Agenda packages located on the Town’s website. 
The public is encouraged to attend the Committee of the Whole meetings which take place in Council Chambers at 9:00AM on the morning of the Regular Open Council meetings at 2:00 PM to learn additional in-depth information regarding upcoming business.
